The artist
George Petrides
Monumental figurative sculpture is at the heart of the practice. Forty public sculptures are installed or being installed across seven sectors and eight countries.
Born in Athens in 1964 and based in Athens and New York, George Petrides is a contemporary sculptor whose work explores personal narrative, cultural heritage and digital fabrication.
His practice begins in clay. Through 3D scanning, digital sculpting and specialised fabrication, including bronze casting, each work takes shape before being worked and finished by hand.
Education & artistic practice
Petrides studied Classics at Harvard College (B.A., 1985) and completed graduate studies at Stanford University (M.B.A. and M.A., 1993). From 1996, he studied and practised art alongside a career in international finance.
He first enrolled at the New York Studio School in 2001, continued his studies over the following two decades, and earned a Certificate in Sculpture in 2022. In 2017 he committed fully to his artistic practice.
